Obituary for Lynda G. Forbes
Forbes, Lynda G. (Herron) – Peacefully, with her husband David holding one hand and her brother Bruce holding the other, Lynda passed from this world to the next on December 20, 2018. Lynda was born in Mississauga and was the daughter of Robert and Margaret (Langdon) Herron. Lynda was the oldest of six children and was the prototypical “big sister”. Her siblings might say “bossy” but she would say “loving and responsible.” Lynda and Dave lived their working life in Caledon Village, Ont. where Lynda was a vibrant part of the village community and Knox Caledon United Church where she led and participated in many activities such as handbell ringing, making banners for the sanctuary, craft group, theatre dinners, Church Secretary and Treasurer. She loved working the Fall Fair Food Booth and participating in community events. Lynda was recognized for her work in the Caledon community in 2009 by receiving the Town of Caledon Volunteer and Citizen Achievement Award. Lynda’s wish was to retire to her “home in the harbour, at the edge of the sea”. She often joked and said she fell in love with Parrsboro first and David second. Lynda worked in the family business, Herron Chevrolet Oldsmobile in Mississauga with her father, brothers and sisters from 1980 until 2000 when the business was sold and became part Addison Chevrolet. Lynda then became a part of the Addison Team and retired in June 2018. Lynda was recognized as a Gold Level Member of the General Motors of Canada Dealer Accountants Guild for over 25 years. Lynda approached all that she did with a get it done and do it right attitude; she was very passionate about her work life and approached it, and her colleagues, with loyalty and respect. Lynda is survived by her husband of 37+ years, David Forbes, now residing in Parrsboro; her mother, Margaret Herron, Mississauga; sisters, Catherine Wilson (Brian) and Jayne Herron, all of Mississauga; brothers, Bob Herron (Karyn), Brantford, Ont. and Bruce Herron, New Glasgow; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rod Hyslop, Moncton; Sandra and Ron MacLean, Parrsboro; Shirley and Glenford Hatfield, Port Greville. Known as Deeda to some and Auntie Lynda to others, she was a hero to her nieces and nephews and the “kids in the hood”. Lynda was predeceased by her father, Robert Herron (2005); sister, Ann Herron (2018); and sister-in-law, Audrey (Forbes) Hyslop (2016). Thank you to the Doctors and Nurses in both Truro and Halifax Health Care Centres for their exceptional efforts and care. Memorial Service will be held at the Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre, 21 First St., Orangeville on Saturday January 5, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. with visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Knox United Church, Caledon. She will enter His gates with thanksgiving in her heart for the amazing and loving family and friends she encountered on her life’s journey.
