Obituary of Lyda Brooks
Brooks, Lyda Isabelle (nee Walker) – of Ridgetown, passed away peacefully at the Village on the Ridge on Friday November 16, 2018, in her 100th year.
Born in West Lorne, daughter of the late James Wellington Walker and Emma (nee Mills).
Wife of the late Norman Byron Brooks (d. 1990).
Predeceased also by her brothers Norman, Clifford, Newton, Calvin, Neil Glenford “Bud”, sisters Margaret Leith and Mary Gammon.
Survived by her sister-in-law Shirley (late Gord) Kennedy.
Will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and her special caring friend Bonnie Roberts.
Lyda spent the majority of her working career at Ontario Hydro in Blenheim and Chatham where she made many lifelong friends. A member of Erie St. United Church, Lyda belonged to the United Church Women and the church choir. She was also an active member of the I.O.D.E Randolph Churchill Chapter, Blenheim.
Visitation will be held at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 76 Main St. East, Ridgetown, on Tuesday November 20, 2018 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. The Funeral Service will be held at Erie St. United Church on Wednesday November 21, at 11am. Reception to immediately follow the funeral service. Those wishing to, are welcome to attend the burial at Evergreen Cemetery, West Lorne following the reception.
Donations in memory of Lyda may be made to Erie St. United Church or a charity of your choice.
