Lorimer Gareth Porter
1931-2018
Lorimer Gareth Porter, born April 20, 1931 in Lakeville,
passed away peacefully at his Coldbrook home on Monday, December 17,
2018. He was a son of the late W. Starr and Abigail “Bessie”
(Kinsman) Porter. Lorimer was a loving, supporting and caring husband,
father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He grew up in Grafton and
left the farm life as a young man, moving to Kentville to work for
both Wades Food Stores and Dominion Store as well as a driver salesman
for G.L. Graham Meats for a few years. Lorimer had been employed as a
meat cutter, prior to becoming involved in the insurance industry. He
also owned a number of rental properties. Lorimer was a very
successful insurance agent with Metropolitan Life for 20 years as well
as a landlord for 40 years. He enjoyed being active, snowmobiling in
the winter and summers were spent at the cottage at Aylesford Lake
where many happy times were shared with family and friends.
Lorimer’s pride and joy were his sports cars and a highlight
of his day was meeting his buddies at the coffee shop. Barb and
Lorimer also enjoyed many trips south. Lorimer is survived by his wife
of 63 years, Barbara Ann (Gillis) Porter; faithful companion,
“Kelsey”; daughter, Debbie Totten; son-in-law, Scott
Garland; sister, Eileen (Ron) Trevors; brother-in-law, Larry (Lorie)
Gillis; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and many nieces
and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Suzanne Garland;
son-in-law, Terry Totten; brother, Frank Porter and sister-in-law,
Helen Porter (Jess). In keeping with Lorimer’s wishes,
cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or funeral
service, by request. Burial will take place at a later
date. Donations in memory may be made to the Hearing
Foundation of Canada. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White
Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville.
