Obituary for
Lloyd Alexander Schick
Lloyd Schick of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Adella Schick, passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at the age of 89 years. Lloyd leaves to cherish his memory five children, Ivan (June) Schick of Irvine, Imogene (Tom) Hoff of Medicine Hat, Calvin (Sally) Schick of Black Diamond, Vern (Carol) Schick and Pam (Mike) Antler, both of Medicine Hat; eleven grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Lloyd was predeceased by his wife Adella; his parents, Alex & Martha; his brother, John (Martha); his sister, Shirley; brother/sister-in-law, Henry & Erna; and brother-in-law, Edmund.
Lloyd was born on March 2, 1929 in Burstall where he was also raised. It was there where he learned how to play pool, and once he moved to Medicine Hat, he would play every Saturday. On August 3, 1950 he married Adella. Together, Lloyd and Adella lived on the farm south of Leader from 1950 to 1963 and then relocated to the farm south of the Burstall gas plants where they resided from 1963 to 1977. In 1977 they moved to Medicine Hat where he worked for the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede. Lloyd lost his passion for life when Adella passed away in 2007. His last years of life he lived in the Haven, where he received excellent care.
Lloyd loved to curl and play hockey and baseball. He also loved watching sports and was a season ticket holder for the Tigers for over 40 years. He also loved watching baseball (Jays/Mavericks). It was at a Jay’s game back in the 80’s when he befriended a young baseball player from Florida, Tim Phillips. Tim considered “Pops” as his dad, and has remained close to Pops and the family. He loved his many horses and greyhound dogs that he used for coyote hunting. He was mischievous and liked to play tricks on people, you always knew when he was up to something as he would get that twinkle in his eye. Kids at church knew him as the “candyman” (he always carried certs in his pocket and kids would come and reach into his pocket and grab a candy). He loved to play games (enjoyed many games of aggravation with good friends), and crib (especially when he skunked you!). He will be missed by his family and friends. We love you Dad, rest in peace!
