Lillian Chalus
January 3, 1926 – December 3, 2018
Lillian (Lilly) Chalus, beloved wife of the late Bill Chalus of Canora, SK, passed away at the Canora Gateway Lodge on December 3, 2018, at the age of 92 years.
Lillian was born January 3, 1926 to Nikifor and Mary (Hnatyshyn) Demchuk. She grew up on the family farm in the Burgis District and attended Poplar Springs School.
On October 30, 1943, Lily married William (Bill) Chalus and moved onto the Chalus family homestead near Good Spirit District. Her days were filled with farm responsibilities such as milking cows, feeding the animals, baking bread, cooking, and making soap. Additionally, she always had a lovely big garden. She had a “green thumb” for growing plants, as well as her lovely dahlias, lilies and petunias. After moving to Canora, Lilly won the first prize award in 2003 for the most attractive “Pioneer Garden, Canora in Bloom”.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace and her memory be eternal.
Lilly was predeceased by her parents, Nikifor and Mary; sisters, Anna Shalkowsky and Kay Biletsky; brothers, Alec Demchuk and Nick Demchuk; and her half-sisters and half-brothers: Jenny Hnatyshyn, Lena Chabun, Paul Demchuk, Fred Demchuk, Harry Demchuk, and John Demchuk.
She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn (Tom) Dyrland of Kamloops, BC and son, Ken (Annette) Chalus of Summerland, BC; as well as her nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
In Lilly’s honour, Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 6, 2018 and the Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 7, 2018, both from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK, with Rev. Fr. Michael Faryna officiating. Interment will follow in the Canora Cemetery. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Canora Gateway Lodge Auxiliary, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Lillian Chalus.
