Obituary of Laurie Blanchard, Glace Bay
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Laurie Blanchard, at the age of 63. Laurie passed away at home on Sunday, September 9, 2018.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of Lorraine and the late Charles McKinnon. At a young age she worked for Maritime Tel & Tel in Glace Bay, after that she worked in housekeeping at Seaview Manor, the Bay Plex, Lingan Golf Course and finally with DCI Cleaning at Senator’s Place in Glace Bay.
Laurie is survived by her mother Lorraine McKinnon; her son D.A. (Blayne Oliver) and her precious grandchildren Aiden, Tallia and Kalli, Reserve Mines and son Rodney (Dawn), Glace Bay; brother Alan; sisters Melva and Charlaine (Michael) Chiasson and long-time friend Angie MacDougall. She will also be sadly missed by her aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Besides her father Charles McKinnon, she was also predeceased by a brother Francis ‘Fra’, niece Brett and stepfather Allan ‘Sonny’ MacMullin.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 13, 2018 from 7-9 pm in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass presided by Fr. Norman Mac Phee will be held 10 am Friday in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay.
All are welcome to join Laurie’s family at a reception in the church hall immediately following the Funeral Mass. Interment will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County.
