Obituary for Laura Grimeau
Born March 29,1925, Laura grew up in Kisbey, Saskatchewan. She discovered the beautiful Qu’Appelle Valley when she taught at Lumby School.
In 1945, she married Joseph Grimeau. They welcomed eight children into their family: Naomi, Victor, Yvonne, Alfred, Lawrence, Paul, Brenda and Rita.
Laura, known to many as Granny, was famous for her cinnamon buns, chocolate chip cookies, and homemade bread. No one ever left her home hungry.
She was a very talented seamstress and knitter. She introduced and taught the art of Japanese Bunka embroidery to many people in this area. Among her many interests were: photography, Scrabble, card playing, reading, music and bird-watching. Speaking of reading, Laura kept many librarians busy trying to keep the shelves stocked to feed her voracious appetite for books. She took great pride in her huge vegetable and flower gardens. Laura was an avid follower of Blue Jays baseball and curling.
Laura spent many years managing Grimeau Park campground with her husband, Joseph. She operated a small convenience store over the summer months. She became known as Granny to all the young children who camped there over the years.
Laura will always be remembered for her kind heart, generous and giving nature and keen wit. She was a cancer survivor for 60 years. This is a testimony to her strength of body and spirit.
Laura was predeceased by her parents, her siblings, her husband Joseph (2012), her daughter Naomi Windrim (2011), her son-in-law David Cyr (2017), and her granddaughter Tracy Grimeau (1991). She is survived by her sister-in-law Denise Muttart, her brother-in-law Clarence Hookenson (Charlotte), and her brother-in-law George Grimeau (Marilyn). Her legacy lives on through her 26 grandchildren and their spouses, her 40 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
