Obituary of Julio Tonet
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother and husband, Julio John “Bud/J.J.” Tonet, on November 15, 2018 in Bedford, Nova Scotia, at the age of 81. Bud was born in Howie Centre, Nova Scotia.
His passion for cars led to his career as a car dealer at Sydney Volkswagen Ltd, Tonet Dodge Chrysler and Belle Isle Lincoln Mercury. During these early years he enjoyed time with friends and family fishing and hunting in Lake Ainslie, camping and boating on the Bras d’Or and being an active member and Commodore of the Royal Cape Breton Yacht Club.
Always the entrepreneur, J.J. moved to Bedford in the 90s and opened Bedford Buy & Sell (now Bedford Appliance Warehouse) with Della. Here he raised their two children and spent many special times with family and friends boating through the islands of Mahone Bay.
He cherished spending time with his family and continued to make us smile with his witty sense of humor up until the day he left us. He cared for his children fiercely and we adored him. A more devoted father and Papa, you will never find. In the end, our family is grateful that J.J. was able to pass peacefully at home with his loyal dog Prince by his side.
J.J. is survived by the love of his life and partner of 32 years Della Doucette and their children, Jillian (Crissy) and Stephen (Jessica), as well as his first wife of 25 years Joanna and their loving children, Natalie (Sergei), Alison (Tony) and Cynthia; grandchildren, Benjamin, Alison, Marcus and Brandon; siblings, Sylvia Campbell, Mary MacPherson (Bob) and Dan (Mona), as well as his many nieces, nephews and friends.
He is predeceased by his loving parents, Giuseppe (Joseph) and Cecelia, as well as his brother, Joseph, and brother-in-law, Peter Campbell.

Please join us at the Bedford Basin Yacht Club, Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm to raise a toast to this extraordinary life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in J.J.’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822).
