Peacefully, with her family by her side, Joyce Biccum passed away at Virden Health Centre on Sunday, February 25. Joyce was predeceased by her husband Les, her brother Ken and her sister Irene. She will be lovingly remembered by her sons Randy (Bev) and Scott (Denise) and her granddaughters Lana (James and wee George), Taylor and Logan.
Joyce was born on July 29th, 1930 in the R. M. of Blanshard. She grew up on the family farm south of Cardale. Joyce worked at Caldwell Motors in Hamiota before marrying Les Biccum in 1951. With short stays in Winnipeg and Treherne, the couple settled in Virden in 1964 with their two sons. Joyce and Les celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary before Les’ passing in 2007.
Joyce and Les were fortunate enough to travel throughout the USA and Europe. They also enjoyed water skiing, golf, skating, dancing, curling, cross country skiing and spent much of their summers at Salt Lake near Strathclair. Joyce continued to water ski, curl and golf, started lawn bowling and became an avid Virden Oil Caps fan. Joyce and her friends never missed a game. She also never missed her granddaughters playing their favorite sports. Joyce and her friends also loved to walk all over town for exercise. She still cherished her summer time at Salt Lake. She always loved campfire time. Joyce cherished the time spent with her friends that came to see her in the last month at her home.
Joyce’s family would like to thank the excellent staff at the Virden Health Centre for their care.
The Funeral Service will be held from St. Paul’s United Church – Virden at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9th with Don Sellsted officiating.
