Josephine Jane Wicha
March 9, 1936 – June 25, 2018
WICHA, Josephine – 82, Halifax. It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Josephine Wicha, on June 25th, 2018, following a brief illness. Josephine was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Jan Wicha, and her twin sister Maria Lukačkova. She will be missed by her sons Jan (Helen), Peter (Kim) and Mirko (Colleen); grandchildren Shareen, Alex, Gabrielle, Jana, Lenka, Nektarios, Nicolas and Katrina and her special friend Henry; several nieces and nephews; and many, many dear friends. Born March 9, 1936 in Banská Štiavnica, Czechoslovakia (now Slovak Republic), she was the daughter of the late Alžbeta Tóthova and Julius Chvala. Having escaped the Communist invasion of Czechoslovakia in August 1968, Josephine came to Canada with only her husband and three sons. Her journey to Canada took a circuitous route through Cairo, Beirut and Toronto until finally settling down in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She was a world traveller, having visited every continent over her 82 years but she particularly loved beaches and swimming in the ocean. She was always full of stories and anecdotes, many about her life back in Czechoslovakia where she and her identical twin sister delighted in trying to fool people. Everyone was fair game, teachers, friends and even boyfriends. Anyone who knows Josephine will fondly remember her elegance and her love of bright colors and flamboyant patterns. Never to be mistaken for a wallflower, Josephine was known for her sharp wit and quick tongue. She never shied from speaking her mind and to tell it like it was. She was unerringly kind and generous with everyone and was always quick to help anyone in need. She dedicated her life to her three boys and she was very proud of the men they became. And of course it is impossible to think about Josephine without thinking about her amazing love for cats, and her most recent pride and joy, her dear precious cat Marka. Cremation has already taken place. Visitation will be Friday, June 29th, 2018 from 12 noon to 3pm at J A Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Josephine Wicha may be made to the Wicha Music Foundation by cheque and mail to PH2-1400 Avenue des Pins Ouest, Montreal, Quebec, H3G 1B1 or a charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank the many friends, hospital staff, homecare nurses and personal care workers and the Palliative Care team who assisted in Josephine’s care. The family would also like to extend an extra special thank you to her special friend Emilia Viglasky, for all of her selfless support and care.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Josephine Jane Wicha 2018.source
