Forever In Our Hearts
John Joseph Eckert of Regina, SK passed away peacefully Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the age of 89 years.
John, the beloved husband of the late Isabel Eckert, was surrounded by family and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory Kevin (Shawna), Wanda (Tom), Divia, Ryan (Angela), Tarina (Bethany), a dear family friend of over 30 years, Laurie; four grandchildren Katie (Brett), Sarah, Johnathan (Jamie) and Sydney (Caleb); great grandchildren Molly and Brooklyn; brothers George (Lorraine) and Tony; four sisters Georgina, Gwen, Florence (Donald) and Freida (Jim); as well as numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Anton and Elizabeth; siblings Ben, Paul, Ronnie, Clem and Irene; one granddaughter Larissa. John was born in Abbey to Anton (Tony) and Elizabeth (Deis) Eckert.
He was one of 12 children and left home at a young age to work to help support the large family at home.
Dad worked as a farmhand on a number of farms and ranches, eventually ending up at the large Minor’s ranch in the south west.
Eventually Dad met his wife-to-be, Isabel Kaufmann and the two were married at Ceylon SK in 1958. After marrying, Mom and Dad settled in Regina together raising two children and later extending the family by two.
Dad was quite the handyman (with help of duct tape and finishing nails) and a great painter. He loved football, boxing, basketball, hockey, and the rodeo. He was an avid Blue Jays fan and carried a passion for hating the Yankees. Any sport on TV he would watch; providing colourful commentary.
Dad lived in his own home for over 40 years and was affectionately known as the Mayor of King Street.
His love for his grandchildren was of utmost importance to him and he would always drop whatever he was doing to chat and laugh with them.
He will be missed but not forgotten… this is where the cowboy rides away.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE for John will be held at Regina Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4001 East Victoria Avenue, Regina, SK on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.
