Obituary Overview
John “Jack” Ashby Quartly
John “Jack” Ashby Quartly passed away peacefully July 16, 2018. Jack is survived by his loving wife Dianne; children Stephen, Chris and Susanne (Ken); and grandchildren Isabella, Ronin, Adalyn and Harrison. He is also lovingly remembered by siblings Shelia (John), Rick (Trudy), Pat, Doug (Corene), Herb (Tracey), and Allan (Joan); and extended family and friends. He is predeceased by his parents Cyril and Myrtle and brother Ron.
John was born on December 22nd, 1945, in Rimbey, Alberta. He grew up on a farm near Innisfail where he developed a love for sports and music. After graduation, he was employed by AGT and completed his certification as a Communication Electrician. He married Dianne in 1968 and moved to Red Deer to raise his family. Jack continued working for AGT and then Telus for 37 years and then retired and continued working line locating for the next 12 years. His interests continued to center around sports as he played broomball, fastball and slow pitch and rooted for his favorite teams the Edmonton Oilers and Edmonton Eskimos. Jack loved to support his children and grandchildren in their sports and activities. He enjoyed travelling, with his favorite destinations being Hawaii and Las Vegas, which he visited many times through the years. Although he loved travel, some of his best memories were made camping at his lake lot in Gull Lake. Jack’s favorite role came about with the arrival of his grandchildren. He was a proud and doting grandfather who always had a picture nearby and a story to tell.
The family is grateful to the Home Care nurses for their assistance with Jack over the past year and a half as well as the staff at Red Deer Regional Hospital for their professional and compassionate care.
A Funeral Service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 4718 Ross Street, Red Deer, AB, on Tuesday July 24, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with a luncheon to follow.
