Obituary for
John Drofenik
Born August 18, 1938 in Spodna-Kostrivnica, Slovenia, John (Janez) Drofenik passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Vancouver General Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents Blaz and Elizabeta, and nephew Roman in Slovenia and cousin Max in Vancouver. He reunites now with his daughter Debbie. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Danica, daughters Brigita Traversa (Joseph) and Simone McGuire (Daniel), grandchildren Daniella, Dante, Connor and Kieran, sisters Ana and Micka, and niece, nephews, and extended family in Slovenia and Vancouver. J.D. worked at Canada Safeway for 35 years in the Burnaby warehouse and was a large part of the Slovenian community and The Slovenian Society where he also served as President. A memorial service will be held at Bell & Burnaby Funeral Chapel, 4276 Hastings Street, Burnaby on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to either The Kidney Foundation of Canada (www.kidney.ca) or The Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca) or both.
