Janice Beverly Katzberg
Born at Queen Victoria Hospital, Yorkton, Sask, June 26th, 1936. Weight 4lbs. 5oz.
Parents – Fred and Hattie Katzberg.
Sisters – Doris and Audrey.
I grew up in Ebenezer, Saskatchewan.
My family and I attended Ebenezer Baptist Church and after my Baptism I became a member, August 10th, 1947.
I taught Sunday school at an early age. I was active in a youth group, sang in the choir, played the piano at church and also played for groups and choirs participating in the Live Radio Broadcast in Yorkton.
I attended the Ebenezer Public School – grades 1-10 and then attended Yorkton Collegiate where I took grade 11 and 1 year Commercial courses.
In 1954 I moved to Regina, Sask, where I worked at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building as a Stenographer.
In Regina I attended and became an active member at Victoria Baptist Church and when the church closed I attended Faith Baptist Church.
In December 1959 I moved to Vancouver, BC.
Before leaving Regina a friend suggested in Vancouver I should contact the Government Employment Department and do temporary work in order to familiarize myself with Vancouver and then perhaps be hired by the company I wished to work at permanently.
My wish was to be hired at the Canadian Pacific Railway and that was where I worked 7 1/2 years.
My next job was at State Farm Insurance and then at Wilkinson Steel Co. where I worked for 30 1/2 years.
In Vancouver I attended Ebenezer Baptist Church and became a member in 1960.
As a member I became active in various communities and boards.
I taught Sunday school for 23 years, sang in the choir – also many years.
I played the piano at the Woman’s Guild Meetings and later on at the Challengers Meetings.
I was blessed by having a loving wonderful family and many wonderful friends.
My dad passed away in February 1970 and mom passed away in April 1990. My sister Audrey passed away in January 1997.
