OBITUARY
Jane “Jean” Oliphant McArthur
May 7, 1937 – March 8, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jane “Jean” McArthur, age 80 of Bedford, Nova Scotia. Jean passed away on March 8, 2018 at home surrounded by her family.
Born in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland she was the daughter of Alexander and Georgina Morrison.
As a life-long partner to Andrew for 60 years, Jean committed her life to being that partner, moving from Scotland to England, followed by Denmark before immigrating to Saint John, New Brunswick in 1963. Jean went on to become the loving mother of 4 daughters and a nanny to 6 grandchildren, and friends of many both in Canada and as a snowbird in Sebring, Florida. Always a helping hand she volunteered at the IWK in Halifax and the Hospital in Sebring, Florida. What she loved most was being surrounded by her family, the outdoors, long walks, golfing at Ashburn Golfclub in Halifax and Sun-N-Lakes, Florida. She always put others first and had a quiet strength that we could all depend on. We will be forever grateful for the gift that was her life.
Jean will be lovingly remembered and forever in the hearts of her husband, Andrew McArthur (Ret. Shipbuilding Executive), Bedford, her daughters Susan McArthur, Bedford, Jaqueline (Gary) Stephenson, Florida; Jane (Gerard) Farrell, Upper Tantallon; Jennifer (Brian) Kelly, Toronto, her six grandchildren Amanda Stephenson, Kaitlyn and Andrew Farrell, Brett Thorne, Jack and Jordyn Kelly, her sister Margaret Peebles, Scotland and all of her nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her parents Georgina and Alexander Morrison, brother Alex Morrison, sister Anne Black and her niece Jill McArthur.
A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday Mar 14, 2018 at 1:00pm at JA Snow Funeral Home at 339 Lacewood Drive in Halifax.
