James Robert Dorman (Jim)
Born April 24, 1933 in Winnipeg Manitoba. Jim passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving wife and family on November 21, 2018 after a long illness. Thanks to the Palliative care team and his nurses Cathie and Katie. As well as his daughter Claudette and good friend Sandi Rutz who helped make his finals days comfortable. Jim is predeceased by his parents, James Hiram Dorman and Lena (Gladu) as well as his brother George, sister Lucille, and daughter Jodi. He is survived by his wife Sylvia, sister Linda (Tino) Diodero and nephew Robertino. His children Ricky, Robert, Sherrie, Claudette, Margie and Jay as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jim will be missed by his many friends in the hockey community. From a young age Jim enjoyed his time on the ice as a young man with the Winnipeg Toban’s and travelled to play with the Yellow Knife Giants. Jim was also a respected ice official on the lower mainland. Once settled in Nanaimo in 1986 he quickly joined the local hockey community and became a beloved member of the Grumpy Old Men.
Jim also had a love of training and racing horses. And will be greatly missed by the Hastings Park community.
In later years Jim and Sylvia loved to travel by cruise to many foreign ports of sea. He met many life long friends on their adventures. Jim will be remembered fondly by his travelling family for his quick wit and open smile.
