Jacqueline “Lois” Barrett
August 8, 1932 – March 17, 2018
Jacqueline “Lois” (Goodwin) Barrett, age 85, passed away peacefully in her sleep March 17, 2018 in Halifax. Born in Bridgetown on August 8, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Inglis and Ethel (Bent) Goodwin. Lois’ early years were spent in Belleisle. She graduated from Bridgetown High School in 1950, and went on to graduate Teachers College in 1952. She taught school in Wilmot, Parkers Cove, Lawrencetown and Bridgetown. Lois married Ronald George Barrett on August 8, 1953 and moved to Clarence. She became a long standing member of the Clarence United Baptist Church. She was active in the church and community holding many different offices over the years. She joined Rebekah’s in 1956 and held all offices as well as N.G. 4 times. She was P.P.D.D within the lodge and had her assembly degree and was active in that part of the lodge. She worked with her husband on their farm, raising their 4 children until selling the farm in 1978. She was also active supporting her family within the Guernsey Breeders Association travelling and working with her husband. She was actively involved with 4H group while her family was at home, and continued to help other young people in various projects afterward. She enjoyed crafts and worked with many different crafts over the years. Many years entering her crafts in Exhibitions and later becoming a judge for crafts. In 1987 Lois and Ron took up Square dancing a source of enjoyment for both of them. In 2000 she and Ron moved to Port George, where they lived till moving to Halifax in 2011. In 2015 Lois moved to Melville Gardens, joined by Ron in 2016. She is survived by her husband Ronald; sons John (Kathy); Ernest (Julie); Stephen (Elizabeth) and 1 daughter Mary Anne; 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Hogan; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by an infant son and infant brother. Memorial services to be held 2:00 pm, Saturday March 24th at Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., 902-825-3448 with Rev. Barbara Bishop officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Melville Gardens for all their support.
