Irene Isabelle MacDonald
3 February , 1916 – 3 June , 2018
MacDonald, Irene Isabelle – 102 of Halifax passed away on June 3, 2018at Northwood, surrounded by her loving family. Born February 3, 1916 in Goldenville Guysborough Co. She is a daughter of the late Augustus and Alberta (Nickerson) Sponagle and one of 11 children and wife of the late Neil MacDonald 1976. She leaves to mourn her devoted children Shirley (Lorne Moase) of Charlottetown, Madeline (Walter Giffin) of Dartmouth, Jim (Roxanne) MacDonald of Hammonds Plains, Georgina Price, Donna (Steve) Zoccole of Halifax and beloved grandchildren; Steven (Lyne), Sandra (Cris), Scott, Chris (Michelle), David, Tracy (Fred), Wade (Tammy), Neala (Mike), Tara (Scott) and her loving great-grandchildren Lindsay, Lauren, Brayden, Micah and Caris, Alex and Noah.
She is survived by sister and brothers Ina Sponagle, Olive Christianson and Mabel Walker of Truro. Harold and Eileen Sponagle of Halifax, Robert Sponagle of Moncton and her sister-in-law Emma MacDonald of Halifax and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her brother and sisters Byron, Alberta, Morton, Edwin (Doris), Lester and son-in-law John Price
Irene loved people and always welcomed everyone into her home. She always looked forward to her vacation in Goldenville, Guysborough Co. to visit friends, a place she still called home. She was a homemaker and worked at LIscomb Lodge, CNIB and the Waegwoltic Club in her earlier years. She was a member of the former United Memorial church and Unit 5.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at Snow’s Funeral Home 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax on Thursday June 7, 2018 at 11am with Rev. Catherine MacDonald officiating.
