HOWES, Lloyd – Hermon Lloyd Howes, 80, of Brantford, beloved partner and best friend of Heather (Jones) Howes for 33 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for, and loved May 17th, 2018. He was predeceased by his parents Mary and Richard Howes, brother-in-law Gordon Pike and granddaughter Christina. Lloyd was born and spent his younger years in Port Loring. He guided in the Port Loring area for several years. Flying in supplies, with his 1946 Fleet 80 Canuck, which he later sold to the Ottawa Aviation Museum. He came south and worked for GM. He started a bus line of 4 buses while working at GM, to get employees back and forth to the plant for their shifts. He began work with Campbell Construction as a Forman, which brought him to Brantford. He worked on the highway 54 area and the Grand River restructuring. Once here, he decided Brantford was where he wanted to settle. He was employed by Hussmann Store Equipment for decades. Ever the entrepreneur, he bought Brantford’s first sub shop: Sub Tub. He and Heather ran the business from 1987-1993, moving the business to Grand River Ave in 1990.He had many long time clients, of which many became his close friends. He supported Seals hockey and several Ball Teams in Brantford for many years. Besides Heather, he is survived by his children, Catherine (Rick) of Brantford, Noreen (Ray) of Paris, Melissa of Thunder Bay, Melanie (Don) of Brantford, Ashley (Greg) of Branchton and Nathan of Brantford; his grandchildren, David, Jewelee, Kaitlyn, Jesse, Brianna, Matt, Lee, Jeff, Harrison , Lloydie and Elyse; his great-grandchildren Kalvin, Evannah, Daniela, Myra and Alden; as well as sisters Ruby of Port Loring, Gladys of Orillia, Alice (Mervin) of North Bay, Margie of Kingston and brothers Ron (Diane) of Port Loring and Richard (Debbie) of Brantford; as well as his best friend Murray Schlueter; and first wife Hannah; also his numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of Brant CCAC and Stedman Community Hospice, which allowed us to let Lloyd end his journey at home. Their dedication and effort to provide quality care over the past month were a heartwarming blessing to the entire family. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we spent with him. Special thanks to Nathan who tenderly cared for his father daily in every way and Ashley for assisting in his care. You two don’t know how much he appreciated your love and devotion XX. Very special thanks to Sue Watson, my special sister who never let me face this alone. A memorial will be held in Port Loring on Tuesday, May 29, 2018.
