Forever missed & always remembered
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Howard Douglas VanSnick age 85 of Amherst on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 with family by his side at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan.
Born in Joggins, Howard was the son of the late George and Mabel (Comeau) VanSnick.
Howard was a jack of all trades, a coal miner, lumberman, mechanic and blueberry land manager. He worked in Cumberland County his entire life to support his family.
He enjoyed teaching his boys how to fix and paint cars, as well as his grandchildren both boys and girls.
Howard loved trapping, hunting, fishing watching old movies and the Blue Jays games. He also loved to play cards and would attend the Amherst 50+ Club on many Tuesdays to play crib. He also enjoyed many crib tournaments that he played with his sons in, Amherst, River Hebert and Joggins.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Doris (Burke), children, Donnie (Laura Lee), River Hebert, Carl (Cathy), Pugwash, Bruce (Angela), Ricky(Christine), both of Moncton, Wayne (Margaret), Pam (John) Smith and Jimmy (Cathy) all of Amherst, 17 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, sisters, Grace Anne Vance, Joan Burbine, Rose Marie Cormier, Catherine (Philip) MacKenzie, brothers, Louis, Roger (Violet), Robert (Josephine) and Edward “Buddy” (Jeannie) Cormier, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Howard was predeceased by brothers, Kenneth, “Sonny”, and Peter, sister ”Jenny” Willigar, and 2 grandchildren.
In accordance with Howard’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will be a private family gathering at Campbell’s Funeral Home with interment to follow in Ragged Reef Cemetery.
Donations in Howard’s memory may be made to Cumberland Regional Palliative Care Unit.
