H Richard MacLean 2018

H. RICHARD MacLEAN, 91
H. Richard “Dick” MacLean, 91, a longtime resident of
Woburn, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, March 15. He was
the loving husband of the late Mary (Bridge) MacLean who died in
2012.
Born in East Providence, RI, and raised in Malden, he was the son of
the late John G., and the late Sarah “Sadie” MacLean.
Immediately following high school in Malden in 1944, Dick enlisted in
the United States Marine Corps. During World War II, he proudly
served with the Marines in the Pacific Theatre of Operations as a
communications specialist. He had been stationed in several locations
throughout the Pacific, and he participated in action against the
Japanese invasion of Bougainville in the Northern Solomon Islands. He
earned his Honorable Discharge at the rank of Corporal in 1946.
Upon returning to the United States after the War, Dick became an
apprentice cable splicer. He continued his training, becoming a
licensed electrician and a member of the IBEW Local #103. He was
involved in many large projects in the Boston area, including the
wiring of Fenway Park, Logan Airport, and Worcester State College.
Dick worked for several electrical contractors throughout his career,
retiring from Mass Bay Electric in East Boston in 1986.
Dick and his late wife Mary enjoyed retirement, spending winters in
Largo, Florida and summers at the cottage which he built in Prince
Edward Island, Canada. He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed rooting
for his grandsons’ teams throughout their high school and
college careers, and debated strategy with them while watching his
favorite professional teams. He was equally proud of his
granddaughter, an artist, whose work adorned his living room in
Woburn. An accomplished handyman, he also enjoyed working around his
cottage in PEI. Dick was a devoted and loving husband to Mary, his
wife of 64 years whom he missed dearly.
Dick is survived by one son, Donald G. MacLean and his wife Donna of
Paxton; and one daughter, Carol A. Welch and her husband Michael of
Woburn. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Richard and
Lindsey MacLean, and Justin, Daniel, and Matthew Welch; two great
grandchildren, Shea and Cassidy MacLean; one brother John MacLean of
Cranston, RI; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in
death by a brother, Lloyd MacLean and a sister, Helen Jenkins.
There will be a graveside service at Canoe Cove Cemetery on Thursday,
August 23, at 4:00 p.m. Everyone welcome.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of H Richard MacLean 2018..
