Gladys Pettit
Gladys Gwendolyn Pettit, our Mom, Nanny and Gran, passed away on November 23, 2018 at Hogarth Riverview Manor at the age of 98. Gladys was born on June 9, 1920 in the county of Derby in England. She came to Canada at two months of age with her parents, Thomas and Lillian (Brocklehurst) York. She married Albert Pettit in 1946. Gladys was employed as a clerk at Marshall Wells where she met Albert and later as a clerk at Zellers. Family was very important to Gladys especially family gatherings and visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed many trips to Florida with her husband and later travelling with her daughter Maureen who was also her shopping buddy. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Raymond York, her husband Albert and grandson Matti Bergroth. Gladys is survived by daughter Jo-Ann Stewart (Bob), grandchildren Cameron Stewart (Darquise, Sydney and Abby), Stacey Freemantle (Jamie, Hannah and Tyler) and Evan Stewart (Thia), daughter Maureen Bergroth (Osmo) and son Wayne Pettit (Mary, James and Cassandra, Alex, Isobel and Drew) and sister-in-law Lois York and family. Thanks to the nurses and staff at Isabella Chartwell, Thunder Bay Regional Hospital and Hogarth Riverview Manor (Lavender Unit) who were so kind to Gladys. Cremation has taken place and the family will celebrate Gladys’ life at a later date. Donations to the Humane Society or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
