Gertrude Eva David

David, Gertrude Eva passed away surrounded by family on June 24 in her 90th year at Dartmouth General Hospital following a brief illness.
Born on October 13, 1927 in North Riverside, Guysborough County, she was the fourth child of the late Ernest & Eva (Marr) Hall.
She moved to Port Felix in the late 40’s to accept a teaching position at the village’s one school. She met her husband, Alphonse David and they were married on October 4, 1951. When the Congregation of Notre Dame arrived in Port Felix and a new two room school house opened in 1958, she left teaching to raise her growing family. Gertrude and Phonso were happily married for 41 years, until his death in 1992. She continued to reside in Port Felix until 2008, when she moved to Edgemere Manor in Dartmouth.
Gertrude is survived by her children: Jim (Janice), Dartmouth; Keith (Donna), Dartmouth; Theresa (Melvin) Bond, Dartmouth; Jerome (Sharon), Canso; Marie (Philip) Cashin, Truro; Louise Young, Truro; Rev. Gerald, Dartmouth. Ten grandchildren include Lisa Langley, Nicole Bruce, Nancy David, Brian David, Racheal Bond-Thomas, Melissa Vickery, David Bond, Jeremy, Emily & Steven Young. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Brayden & Cole Langley, Payton & Beckett Bruce, Dylan David-Pyne, Isaac & Thomas Vickery and Scarlett Bond. Two sisters, Florence Kelly, Roman Valley and Elizabeth (Bessie) Connolly, Guysborough Intervale.
Gertrude was predeceased by her husband Alphonse, parents Ernest & Eva Hall, brothers, John, James, Charles and Parker Hall and sister, Margaret in infancy.
Visitation at Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen St., Wednesday, June 27 from 3:00-5:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Thursday June 28 in St. Clement Roman Catholic Church, 18 Gaston Road, Dartmouth, with a reception to follow in the church hall. Celebrant will be her son, Father Gerald David, with con-celebrants Father John Mills and Father Peter Hanna.
On Friday, June 29, visitation at St. Joseph Church, Port Felix at 12:00 p.m. followed by a Memorial Mass at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Port Felix.
Donations in Gertrude’s memory may be made to the St. Joseph Parish Cemetery Fund or a charity of choice. Family flowers only
The family wishes to extend special thanks to her caregivers over the past year including We Care, V.O.N. and the medical care staff at Dartmouth General 4th Floor who did their job with love and tender care.
