It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Lawrence Hopey which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, July 19th, 2018. Born 1931, in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of the late Everett and Edna (Gamble) Hopey. Gerald was a mechanic by trade and worked for George Kelley for many years up until his retirement. He was an avid reader and he enjoyed watching old family sitcoms on the TV. Gerald also loved playing skipbo and sharing his meals with Lillian up until her passing last year. He had a summer camp in St. Martins where he spent a lot of time and loved to be.
Gerald is survived by his sister Bernice Peacock of St. Stephen; close cousins Sandra Love (Norm Godin) of Saint John and Gail Love (Edward Malcolm) of Saint John; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Gerald was predeceased by his brothers Don and Jim Hopey and special friend Lillian Love.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Monday, July 23rd from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. in the chapel. Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Gerald may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick, Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
