In Loving Memory
On Saturday, December 22, 2018, George Gemakas, loving father of five children passed away peacefully at the age of 95.
George was born on August 4, 1923 in Toronto, Canada to immigrant parents George and Marie Gemakas. He worked hard for his family for over 30 years at General Foods and was known to his community as the jello man, as he often brought treats home for the neighbourhood kids.
Growing up George was an altar boy, although he said he couldn’t carry a note. George had a passion for the stock markets, fishing, and creating new (and at times unorthodox) recipes in the kitchen. When he and his wife Ada moved up to Elora, together they found friendship and leisure time at the Casino.
George was preceded in death by his loving wife Ada, son George and his 8 siblings John, Alec (Alice), Gerald, Peter (Winnie), Chris (Evelyn), Mary (Joseph), Bill, and Helen (Gordon). He is survived by his children Jerry, Gail (Harry), Betty (Norm)and Dave as well as his many grandchildren, Elaine (Brian), David Jr (Tanya), Adam, Charlene (Mike), Norman James, Brandon, Jerry, Derek, Tamara, Melissa, and Sarah. As well as great grandchildren, Thomas Gusto, Kendra, Mikayla, Tonecia, Alisha, Meghan, Matthew, Callie, Benjamin and Owen.
Visitation will be held at McDougall & Brown Funeral Home, 2900 Kingston Rd., Scarborough on Sunday, December 30, 2018, from 2 – 4 p.m. with a funeral service on Monday, December 31, 2018 at 11 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation.
The family would like to send heart felt thank you to the staff and residents at the Beach Arms Retirement, and the nurses and doctors at Michael Garron Hospital.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of George Gemakas 2018..
