In Loving Memory
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of George Smith, 96, on Thursday, February 1st in Calgary.
Though born in Saskatchewan and retired in Alberta, George’s hometown was Ottawa for more than 60 years. He proudly served in the Second World War from 1939-45, landing on Juno Beach with the 3rd Canadian Division on D-day, June 6, 1944. He later married and raised a family in Carleton Heights, working in the Federal Government with Employment and Immigration.
Survived by Shirley (nee Kettles), his beloved wife of nearly 67 years, he is also the adored father of Jane, Greg and Rod (Susan), as well as proud Grandpa to Matthew, Paul, Jacob, Alison, Ben, Noah and Madeline. George is also survived by brother Bob (Florence) of Huntsville ON and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents Hilda and Fred, sisters Eva, Betty and brother Bill.
A private family celebration of life to be determined at a later date.
