George Bourner 1935 2018

We are sad to say goodbye to our beloved husband, father and grandad. George was born in Eastbourne, Sus, England in 1935. After the loss of his mother at a young age, he and his older brother Brian were raised by their grandparents. As a young man, George served his country in Korea as a member of of the British Royal Engineers. Upon returning home from Korea, he met and married his beloved wife Enid in 1957.
He then set out for Canada to set up a home and find employment, Enid joined him after several months apart. Together they had two children, David and Alison. George spent most of his years working as a butcher for Dominion stores. He continued to care deeply for his new country and dedicated time to
helping veterans and their spouses to obtain military pensions. This unselfish devotion to others did not go unnoticed and in 2009 he was awarded the Meritorious service medal from the Royal Canadian Legion and Veterans Affairs Canada awarded him a commendation in 2010.
Passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Monday, December 10, 2018 at the age of 83. Beloved husband of Enid for 61 years. Father of David Bourner and Allison Scanlon.
