George Bennett
Johnson – 87,
Greenfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at East
Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. Born in Greenfield, he was a son of the
late Albert and Ivy (Mitchenall) Johnson.
George worked at Steelco Steel in Ontario before coming back
to Nova Scotia where he worked at Riversdale Lumber and various
sawmills and eventually retired from Stanfield’s in 1991. He
was well-known for his beautiful Christmas trees and people came from
all around to buy them.
George is survived by his daughter, Edith (Darrell) Lynds;
son, Ben (Wendy) Johnson; step-daughters, Louise Ensor, Barbara Terry,
Sharon (Jim) Burris, Darlene Laird; grandchildren, Jeff, Chris,
Alicia, Adam, Erin, Joan, Diane, Ross, Margaret, Sharlene, Megan,
Lindsay, Gina, Jason; great grandchildren, Jessica, Joshua, Daisy,
Nicola, Serena, Haley; half-brother, Eugene Jordan; several nieces and
nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife,
Vicky Dicimbriane; second wife, Elizabeth “Betty” (Miller);
stepson, Tommy; stepdaughter, Sheila; sister, Nina; brother, Fred.
Special thanks are extended to the VON and caregivers that took care
of George in his home and also to the staff at East Cumberland
Lodge.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where the funeral service
will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 27, 2018, Reverend Valerie
Kingsbury officiating. Interment in Crossroads Cemetery, Valley.
