Gemma Kathleen Shelton
1988-2018
1988-2018. “I carry your heart; I carry it in my
heart.” – E.E. Cummings. We, the family of Gemma Kathleen
Shelton, are deeply saddened to share with you the news of Gemma’s
sudden passing on December 21, 2018 in Kentville. Gemma was the
treasured daughter of Pam and Peter Shelton; beloved sister of
Rosalind (Joe Rhew) and Gavin (Paige Nutting). Gemma was an incredibly
compassionate and beautiful person whose smile lit up any room she
entered. Her passing has left a hole in many hearts. Gemma approached
all aspects of her life with her whole heart. She displayed a fierce
determination to accomplish any task she took on. Gemma completed her
certificate in Public Relations from Holland College in 2011. More
recently, though employed full-time, she was taking classes towards
completing her bachelor’s degree. Gemma gave of herself completely in
her role as a rehabilitation worker at King’s Regional Resource
Centre. She loved her job and devoted herself to the clients she
supported. Gemma faced many challenges in her life. She was working
hard to overcome her constant battle with mental illness, and
eventually the pain became overwhelming. We are ever thankful for the
support and guidance provided to Gemma by the mental health
professionals in her life. Despite the struggle she felt inside, Gemma
brought light and kindness to the lives of those around her. She found
happiness in being outside – walking, cycling, and especially spending
time near the ocean. It is not possible to put into words how much
Gemma will be missed. The world is less bright now, and our lives are
forever changed. Gemma’s generosity in life will continue even in her
death as she became a tissue donor, improving the lives of others.
Please join us in a celebration of Gemma’s life in Bishop Hall (10032
Nova Scotia Trunk 1, Wolfville) on December 29th from 12-3 p.m. We
will gather to share food, love, and stories. Donations in Gemma’s
memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
