Frances Silverman
1942-2018
Unexpectedly and
peacefully, at her home, Frances Silverman passed away on December 11,
2018 at the age of 76.
Fran leaves behind her
loving and well-loved children Sarah (Duff and his son Kai) Silverman
and Jonathan Silverman. Also left to mourn and lovingly
remember are her brother Joseph (Joy) Sommerfreund, cousin Asherah
Cinnamon (Ron Breazeale, daughter Rosealba), nephew David Sommerfreund
(Holly MacLean), niece Julie Sommerfreund (Dean Ruhnke) and her
great-nephew Seth Sommerfreund and great-nieces Saige and Piper
Sommerfreund. Fran was predeceased by her parents Paul and
Stella Sommerfreund and by her partner Don
Mitchell.
Fran was a well respected
scientist, an Emerita Professor at U of T and the Gage Research
Institute where she spent 40+ years researching and teaching in the
field of Physiology. Fran had a warm, giving and accepting
personality. She spent her life mentoring and nurturing both
students and family.
Funeral Service will be
held at Congregation Or Shalom, 534 Huron St., on Friday, December 14,
2018 at 12 pm with Rabbi Catharine Clark officiating. Burial
to follow at Or Shalom Cemetery. Shiva will be held at her
brother Joseph’s residence, from Sunday, December 16 to Tuesday,
December 19, at 4:30 pm.
In lieu of
flowers, Fran’s family asks that you consider memorial
donations to the Occupation and Environmental Health Fund of the Dalla
Lana School of Public Health at
donate.utoronto.ca/give/show/207.
A tree will be planted by the staff of the Logan Funeral Home.
