In Loving Memory Of
Erna Voss
Erna Malinda Voss, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2017, at the Grande Prairie Care Centre, at the age of 96 years.
The eldest of eight children, Erna was born July 25, 1921, to Elisabeth and Adolph Lange. The family immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1929 and settled in Saskatchewan where they farmed near Medstead.
Erna was married November 3, 1941 to Ernest “Ernie” Voss. Twins, Rudy and Elizabeth, were born December 8, 1942. In 1948, they had a new beginning with a move to Wembley, AB.
In 1952, Erna realized her dream of becoming a Beautician, when she graduated from Marvel School of Hairdressing. After a year as an apprentice, she set up Erna’s Beauty Shop on Main Street in Grande Prairie. She was extremely successful, doing what she loved and had many, many loyal patrons. In the early 1960’s, Erna was forced to retire due to major surgery
Erna and Ernie made their home on their farm just north of the airport. Erna never gave up her love of hairdressing and loyal patrons would come to the farm.
Three years after the death of her husband Ernie in 1973, Erna decided to take up residence in Kelowna, BC, where she lived until 1999, when a stroke took away her ability to live alone. She moved back to Grande Prairie, and took up residence in Wild Rose Manor.
Erna was a kind, generous, and loving woman. She loved dancing, and made the best pies, cream puffs, and bread. She had many hobbies which included: sewing, ceramics, tole making, and embroidery. Plus her garden was always full of flowers, fruit trees, and vegetables.
In her life she overcame many obstacles to achieve her dreams.
Erna will be missed by many. Left to mourn are daughter Elizabeth; son Rudy (Jennet); grandchildren: Kira, Kersten, Orr, and Randy (Lesli) Voss, Cara-Lee (Felix) Seiler, and Jody (Jeff) Reynolds; great-grandchildren: Randi-Lyn (Mark) Andrew, Corissa, and Justine Voss, Ryan, Taylor, and Christian Sorensen, Devanee, and Blake Reynolds; two great great-grandchildren; sisters: Lydia Hagen, Emma (Lyle) Marshall, Kathy (Bernie) Klemp, Dorothea Dryer; brother George (Helen) Lange; as well as many nieces and nephews.
