Ellen F Dooucette 2018

Ellen F. Dooucette
April 26, 1946 – June 28, 2018

Ellen Frances Doucette, recent resident of Grande Prairie, Alta., and long-time community member of Valleyview, Alta., passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2018, at the age of 72 after a lengthy struggle with cancer.
Ellen was born on April 26, 1946, in Fort McMurray, Alta., to James and Winnifred Hutchinson (Lloyd-Walters). She was the third born in a family that also included two sisters and five brothers. She grew up in various communities in northern Alberta and graduated from high school in Fort Smith, NWT.
Ellen met her husband Andrew (Andy) in High Level, Alta., in 1971. They married in 1972 and welcomed their first son Lyle in 1975. The following year they moved to Whitecourt, Alta., and operated a sporting goods store. Their second son Ryan was born in 1978, followed by daughter Yvette in 1980. In 1985, the family moved to Swan Hills, Alta., and then settled in Valleyview in 1986 where Ellen worked as a teacher’s aide, owned the local Turbo gas station, and assisted in operating her husband’s oil field consulting business. The couple resided in Valleyview until retiring to Grande Prairie in 2015.
A dedicated mother and community member, Ellen regularly spent her time in the local schools as a parent volunteer. Once she became a grandma, she could often be found hosting sleepovers, making crafts and organizing summer road trips to Lac La Biche, Alta., with the grandkids. Most recently she enjoyed lavishing love and attention on Jaci, a Havanese dog they made part of their family in 2012.
A skilled crafter, Ellen was very creative and enjoyed making pottery, knitting, counted cross-stitch, stained glass and, most recently, quilting. Over the years, she made various quilts for family and friends; all her children and grandchildren have at least one of her beautiful creations in their homes or bedrooms.
She loved to travel and embraced every opportunity, including a cross-country bus trip with her mother and sister Mary, a family vacation to Hawaii and Christmas holidays in Cuba. Closer to home, she enjoyed camping and accompanying Andy on various fishing trips in British Columbia. Although she was born, raised and lived in smaller communities, she had a wonderful sense of adventure and desire to explore the world around her.
Her kind heart touched many people over the years. She never hesitated to offer help or assistance to those in need and her generous spirit left a
