Sympathies message

  1. So sad to hear of Eli’s passing. We spent time together in our youth in high school (PCI) in sports and later in softball in Ottawa. When I would hitch hike into town I would usually check to see if he was home and if not I’d sit with Irene on her porch and have a pop before continuing. I think Irene is where Eli got his good nature. Eli’s success in banking was not accidental. In those days the credit manager had a lot of discretion and Eli’s talent in sizing up someone’s character meant he probably never endorsed any bad loans and of course he kept getting promoted. I would usually visit him on main street in Pembroke and then later on Elgin Street in Ottawa when I needed a loan or I just wanted to talk and laugh. A great guy, a great talent and a life well lived. RIP Eli.
