Eleanor
Elizabeth Downing
September 25, l93l – December
29, 2017
With love by her side and all
around her, Eleanor peacefully slipped away to the Heavens on December
29, 2017. She left her laughter and love in the hearts and souls of
her loving husband of over 64 years, Emery, (who believes in angels,
having been married to one), their daughter Anne (Dave) St Alphonse,
NS, their sons Carl (Linda), Stellarton NS, Dale, Kilmuir PEI and John
(Janet) Oakville On. She was also truly blessed to share her kind
spirit with five grandchildren, her little chickadees ~ Shawnna,
Nathan, Brandon, Gregory and Rebecca, as well as two
great-grandchildren, Jacob and Brody. Her parents were Annie and Carl
MacKinnon of Kilmuir, she has one surviving brother, John, and she is
now sharing childhood memories again with her other 6 siblings, Hazel,
Florence, Roy, Mac, Vernon and Lorne. We know for sure that
Eleanor and her sister Florence are once again playing music and
singing together. She lived a full and fortunate life with her family
and friends from far and wide. Every person that Eleanor touched with
her heartfelt her sunshine, as she herself felt blessed for having
them in her own life. She truly offered a special warmth to those who
knew her. Eleanor was very involved with the Rebekah’s, the Women’s
Institute and her Good Morning Group. She generously volunteered her
time at the KCMH Gift Shop and she always had knitting on the go,
donating her lovingly made wares. We will remember her with
never-ending love, for her warm sense of humour, her knitting, her
biscuits, her love of cribbage and cards, how she enjoyed watching the
songbirds and the flowers bloom, and so very much more but especially
for the love and treasures she gave all of us just by being herself.
She can breathe easy now, and her kindness and spirit will continue to
touch our hearts and always sparkle in our eyes. How lucky we have all
been and are better people for having shared our lives with
her.
Thank you all for
your love and support, our hugs and thankfulness to the many people
who helped us now and in the recent past, the Home Care workers, the
Hospital staff, our dear friends and Mom and Dad’s lifelong friends.
Everlasting thanks to the above and beyond kind and caring staff at
Gillis Lodge. You made Mom’s final months comfortable and she often
told us how cherished she felt. You were precious to her and are
precious to us. We will be forever grateful.
Visitation will be at Ferguson Logan Funeral Home in
Montague, Wednesday, January 3, 2018, from 1:00 pm to 2:30
pm followed by a service at 3:00 pm in the Chapel. Donations may be
made to the Lung Association or any charity of your
choice.
