A good life, well lived and gracefully departed, Eilish Waldron (nee O’Sullivan) died on April 25th, 2018 in Kingston. She was 87 years old. She joins her husband of 48 years John Waldron who died May 30th, 2006.
Eilish has four boys and five grandchildren: John (Liisa) with their children Owen (13 yrs) and Ella (11 yrs); Mark
(Leann) and her daughter Zoë; David (Karen) and their children Sarah (19 yrs) and Conor (14 yrs) and Peter who stayed close by her side in her final years. Her brother Tom lives Scotland and her sister Noreen is in Ireland. She is also predeceased by her brother Tadhg and sisters Joan and Maureen.
Eilish was born in Galway, Ireland on November 17th, 1931. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, and in 1954, a teachers’ diploma at the National University of Ireland (Galway). She then taught Mathematics in Western Ireland.
In October 1959, she married John Joseph Waldron, whom she had met at university. They moved to the United Kingdom where John worked as a psychiatrist and they started their family. Following this, Eilish and John, with two toddlers and a baby in tow, set sail for Canada in 1965 where they settled in Kingston. They welcomed their fourth boy, Peter, and settled into a happy family life in their house on the shores of Lake Ontario. In addition to being a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, Eilish was a good friend and neighbour to many, an avid gardener, swimmer, traveller and did extensive volunteer work with young single parents in the Kingston area.
