Obituary of Edna Stennes
Edna May (Boen) Stennes passed away in extended care at St. Mary’s Health Care Centre, Trochu on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at the age of 106. Edna was born in Sturgis, Saskatchewan on December 16, 1911. She was the oldest of 12 children. On August 10, 1932 she married Earl Stennes and they were happily married for almost 65 years. They moved to Alberta in 1954 and resided in Red Deer. Edna kept boarders in their home for a few years and then worked in the dining room at Michener Center for 15 years until her retirement. Edna is survived by her three loving children and their families: Glenn and Mona (Howell) Stennes of Sherwood Park, Dianne & Kevin Newton, Terry Stennes & Ron Stennes; Darlene and Allan Winther of Huxley, Laureen & Dan Frere, Lorne & JoAnn Winther, Earl & Lois Winther, Gary & Fran Winther, Elaine & Ian Crawford, Teresa & Randy Kish, Myrna & Garnet Smith and Bill & Treina Winther; Myrna Boyd of Chestermere Lake, David & Brenda Boyd, Mike & Brenda Boyd, Sandra Boyd and John Boyd; 31 great grandchildren (and spouses), and 27 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Irene Orr and brother, Dennis & Thelma Boen and sister in law Marie Boen of Sturgis, Saskatchewan, and many nieces and nephews. Edna was predeceased by her husband, Earl, her parents, Albert and Cora Boen, her grandson, Gordon Boyd, her sisters and their spouses Lila(Eddie) Beam, Cora (Roy) Haslund, Verna (Herman)Dreeshen, and Bernetta (Bob) Tilbert; Brothers and their spouses John (Hilda), Gordon (Edith), Allen, Eugene, Marlon (Sheila), and brother in law Lee Orr. Edna had a love for life and for her family. She was happy had a beautiful smile and brought joy to all who knew her. At Edna’s request there will be no funeral. Interment will be at the Community Cemetery in Sturgis, Saskatchewan at a later date. Edna will be greatly missed but not forgotten.
