Obituary of Ede Hirschfeld
February 8, 1938 – November 1, 2018
It is with heavy hearts, we mournfully announce the passing of Ede on November 1, 2018 at the Central Peace Health Care Complex, Spirit River at the age of 80 years.
Ede was born in Budapest, Hungary. He lived and attended school in the small town of Pomaz, close to Budapest. He obtained a degree as a Machinist and worked at this for many years until his retirement. Ede was a sailor for 11 years after immigrating to Holland during the Russian occupation of Hungary in 1956. Ede was living in Germany in 1970 when he and Marie met when she was working there. In 1972 Ede and Marie married and following that they went to Yugoslavia many times and then moved to Cape Town, South Africa until 1977 at which time they moved to Canada. They first lived in Kitchener, Ontario then Calgary where he continued to work as a machinist. He enjoyed sailing and hunting. Ede retired in 2007 and they moved to Spirit River where they remained until his passing.
Ede is survived by his wife, Marie, daughter, Ede (Dennis) Heeringa, nephew Tony Stefanik, Surrey BC, nephew, Steven Szrubek, Calgary, and niece, Mariah Halley, Kitchener, Ontario.
A Memorial service for Ede Hirschfeld will take place on Nov 10, 2018 at 12 noon at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Spirit River.
