Dr Edmond Boldizsar de Koos 2018

Dr. Edmond Boldizsar de Koos
May 9, 1942 – November 4, 2018
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our most beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend on Sunday, November 4.
Born in Budapest, Hungary, Edmond immigrated to Canada with his family as a young boy. After graduating from Loyola High School, he entered McGill University where he completed his B. Sc. He then went on to obtain his medical degree in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, becoming an Associate Professor. During his many years at the Montreal General Hospital as well as in private practice, he was a highly respected physician to many in the Montreal community.
Apart from his professional success, what mattered to him most were his family and friendships. He was not only a devoted husband, cherished father and mentor to his own children, but became “Uncle Ed” and friend to so many who met him.
He is survived by his loving wife Lydia, his children Christopher (Emily Estadella), Paula (Scott Bagby), Stefanie (Dan Hillgartner) and his grandchildren, Leo and Maya. He was especially looking forward to meeting his new grandson who is due to arrive this December.
The family will receive condolences on Friday, November 9 between 4 and 7pm at the Centre Funéraire Côtes-des-Neiges 4525 Côtes-des-Neiges, Montreal.
A funeral mass will be held at The Ascension of Our Lord 375 Kitchener Ave, Westmount.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either ‘The Bell Fund’ through Cedars Cancer Foundation or to the Ascension of Our Lord Parish.

  1. Dear Lydia and family,

Alice and I share your sorrow, agony and sudden loss. We are shocked by this terribly sad news. Ed has been a dear friend and mentor to us throughout the years at the MGH, at the Seaforth Medical and we always value his advice, his companionship and his humor. His passing is a great loss to the McGill alumni, the Montreal medical community and to the specialty of Obs-Gynecology. We shall remember Ed for his kindness, his graciousness, his down on earth attitude and his matter-of-fact ways in approaching problems in life. We shall miss him dearly for the longest time. May God take Ed into His hands and May Ed Rest In Peace.

  2. I have been followed by Dr. de Koos for over 30 years. He was an excellent doctor and a kind man. I valued his frankness and trusted his judgment. I will miss him greatly. So saddened by the news of his sudden death. My deepest sympathy to his wife, children and grandchildren. I always enjoyed looking at the photos of his children in his office.

  3. Dr. De Koos will always be remembered as a gentlemen doctor and for his exceptional care of his patients. As a resident under his instruction, he was always courteous, respectful, and willing to share his clinical acumen. As a colleague, he exemplified diligence towards the care of his patients and personally called about each and every patient he was referring as a consult to ensure that they were never forgotten nor taken lightly. Rest assured Dr De Koos, we will continue to cherish the patients you have entrusted to our care.
He has been an immense support from when I started practicing at the MGH which continued even when I moved to the JGH. His candor and his openness in sharing his views (even despite political work pressures) will be sorely missed.
And thus, it is will sincere thanks and respect that I salute Dr. De Koos.
My condolences to the De Koos family for your exceptional loss.

  4. The sudden departure of Ed (Dr. De Koos), left a vacuum in the medical society, but beyond all he left a legacy built on principles of always being up to date in most recent innovations of the medical field. He was almost a permanent fixture in conventions, symposia, journal clubs , small group sessions and annual meetings.
His opinions and experience were always solicited.
I learnt of his passing only today upon my return after being out of town for few days .
I am sad and shocked for the sad news, however more despondent of my inability to share the grief with his family, and tell him how I cherished his friendship and collegiality during his tenure at St-Mary’s hospital centre close to 35 years.
Ed May you Rest In Peace.
