Obituary for Dorothea “Dorothy” Haverstock (Voice)
Dorothea Haverstock passed away peacefully on December 27, 2017 surrounded by her children. She was born in Bradwell, SK to Harold and Jeanne Voice.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, Derek Jay (Clair Miller), Darren Kim (Nancy Ward) and Dorothea Elan (Steve Malesku); seven grandchildren, Brett, Craig, Stuart, James, Gwen, Eliza and Reese Haverstock; and brother, Brian Voice (Margaret). Predeceased by her husband, L.T. (Bud) Haverstock; and brothers, Douglas and Leslie Voice.
Dorothy and Bud met in a choir in North Battleford, SK. They were married on August 2, 1956 and moved to Lamont, AB on October 1,1958.
Dorothy was a graduate of the Royal Conservatory of Music. She was a natural teacher with a passion for sharing her knowledge of music. Dorothy taught many students in the Lamont area. She shared her musical talents as organist and choir director of the Lamont United Church junior and senior choirs. Dorothy also led the Fort Saskatchewan Pioneer Singers on many adventures. She passed a love of music on to each of her children. For Jay, making music is a daily joy; for Kim, a strong appreciation of gospel music and its’ beauty; and for Elan in the melodies and harmonies of choral music.
Dorothy shared a strong commitment to her community with her husband Bud and was active as a Girl Guide Leader, as well as any other cause where she could be of service.
Dorothy’s passion for dogs began when she declared that she, having grown up on a farm, would like a horse. Instead of a horse, Bud bought their first St. Bernard named Jodi.
Dorothy, never one to do anything half way, became involved in breeding, showing, judging and working for the Canadian Kennel Club. Her passion for the breed influenced many Saint Bernard fanciers.
Dorothy will be remembered for her quick wit and sharp tongue as well as her compassion, generosity, and commitment to her community and her family.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Drs. Mohammed and Jordache as well as the staff at the Lamont Health Care Centre for caring for Mom and Dad over the past 2 years.
