Obituary of Donnie Kmet
Donnie Kmet was born to Fred and Telka Groshko at their home near Edson, Alberta on March 30, 1922, and passed away September 1, 2018, at the age of 96 at the Viking Hospital.
Donnie moved to Strome and worked several jobs in the area before she met William (Bill) Kmet. On December 4, 1964, they were married in Holden, Alberta. They moved to the farm north of Killam, where they farmed for many years.
She was an active farm wife. She kept busy with farm chores such as milking cows, raising chickens, planting and raising a garden and cooking meals. Springtime was Donnie’s favorite time of the year. She enjoyed going to the barn to see the new baby calves. She always had broody hens sitting on eggs. She took pleasure in planting a garden and reaping its rewards in the fall. In the cold winter months, she enjoyed sewing and needlework. There was always an old ice cream pail with a knitting or crochet project on the go by her favorite chair. She got great pleasure when people stopped by for a visit. The door was always open, the coffee pot was on and there was always an extra chair at the table.
Donnie is survived by her husband Bill, daughter Lorilee (Russell) Caton and her two grandchildren Darcy and Amanda Caton.
She was predeceased by her sisters Mary (John) Bohoslawyc, Francis (Adolph) Abram, Annie (Elvin) Oliver; her brothers John (Audrey) Groshko, Nick (Vivian) Groshko, and Peter Groshko; her parents Fred and Telka Groshko; sister-in-law Mary (John) Mrychyko, her niece Sophia Williamson and great-nephew Walter Williamson.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 14, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Killam. Memorial donations in memory of Donnie may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Donnie
