Strong, Donald Passed away peacefully with family by his side on December 28, 2018 at the age of 93 years at the Chatham Hospice. Predeceased by his loving wife, Betty Strong. Dear friend of the late Marie McPhee (Dec 2016), whom helped take care of Don for many years. Loving father of Terry (Anne) of Tecumseh, Heather Ann (Ray) Bechard of Mississauga, Robert (Chris) of Chatham, and Shawn Ann (Paul) Brisebois of Tecumseh. Cherished grandfather of 12 and great-grandfather of 17. He leaves behind his brother, William (Audrey) of Kingsville, and predeceased by his siblings, Clarence Strong of Windsor and Gerald (Margaret) of London. He is predeceased by his parents, Harold and Emily (nee Renaud) Strong.
Don was involved in many organizations. He was on the Board of Directors for The Pines (Ursuline Sisters), and Milk Distributors. He was a past President of the Goodfellows from 1959-1960, Ice Cream Association and Chatham Optimist Club. He was named Chatham Goodfellow of the Year in 1966. Don was a proud veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy from 1942-1946 with an honourable discharge. He was the owner-operator of six Peerless Ice Cream Stores for over 25 years. Don was an honourary member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd (Council #4924) and 4th Degree, and fulfilled the duties of Master of the 5th District Southwest Ontario.
Visitation will be held at WINDSOR CHAPEL (Banwell Chapel) 11677 Tecumseh Rd E 519.253.7234 on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 2-5 & 7-9pm. Vigil Prayers and KofC Vigil at 4:30pm. Friends and family are asked to gather at St John Vianney Parish Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 10am until time of Funeral Mass 11am. Interment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
