It is with heavy hearts, the family of Donald Francis Hanlon, loving and devoted husband of Phyllis “Fanny” (Lawrence) Hanlon, announces his passing which occurred suddenly on December 10, 2018, at his residence. Born in Saint John, NB on September 19, 1930 he was the son of the late William and Margaret (Garey) Hanlon. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his daughter Sharon (Elliott) Clements, brother Patrick Hanlon, sister Marjorie McClary (Mac); brother-in-law Tom Cusack and two infant children.
Donald worked for Eastern Bakeries as a Sales Manager for 44 years. He was an avid sportsman in his younger years, and was the Bantam Weight Champ in 1947 Golden Gloves in Boxing. Donald also enjoyed hockey, baseball, curling and bowling. He was a member of the Rockwood Park and Hampton Golf Clubs and the Simonds Lions Club. Donald and Fanny enjoyed hosting many golf tours to Myrtle Beach, they also enjoyed many years at their summer cottage at Taylor Lake.
In addition to his loving wife of 64 years, Fanny, he is survived by his canine companion Scamp; his sons Larry Elliott (Gail) of Fredericton, Greg Hanlon (Heidi) and Daryl Hanlon (Wendy); son-in-law Danny Clements; sister Noel Cusack; nine grandchildren Troy Clements (Marie), Todd Clements (Tanya), Terry Gaudet (Vic), Janice Jordan (Kris), Matthew Hanlon (Kaylee), Brennan Hanlon, Christopher, Cody and Caitlyn Hanlon; 12 great grandchildren and two great great grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) on Wednesday from 1 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 11 am. Followed by a reception in the HOPE Centre.
A private family interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery at a later date.
Remembrances in memory of Donald may be made to the HOPE Centre or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
