Obituary for
Donald Currie Kenneth Campbell
Currie (Grandpa, Dad, Great-Grandpa) came into this world prematurely on April 28, 1928. On Friday November 2 , 2018 he left this world to join family and friends in a better place.
Currie joins his parents, Roderick (Rory) and Henrietta, brother Roderick, sisters Isabelle (Verbrugge) and Henrietta (Nettie) Orchard. They have been waiting for him with open arms and will take care of him from here.
He leaves to mourn his passing his loving Leola, daughters Currine Campbell of Wetaskiwin AB, Connie (Eldon) Neilson of Winnipeg, Carol (Randy) Dyck of Landmark MB, seven grandchildren Rae-Lynne (Faron) Copland, Jennifer (Kevin) Ganderton, Krystle (Justin) Taylor, Riley Neilson, Chelsea (Tyler) Batik, Karlee (Aaron) Smith, Keenan (Nicole) Dyck; five grandchildren Ashley, Addison, Braxton, Easton & Kohen as well as extended relatives & friends.
Currie met his lifelong partner, Leola Johnson at a baseball game in their later school years. They married on September 8, 1951, and started their journey together. A couple years of farming before heading to Winnipeg to take a welding course. Travelling from Ontario to Alberta and back, where ever the welding construction jobs took them. Finally settling in to farming again on the Johnson homestead for 26 years.
Winters in Phoenix were his favorite. He never loved a Manitoba winter. 12 years in Brandon making new friends and volunteering at the Mennonite Thrift Store was also a highlight.
Returning to Baldur in 2012 was the last move. Community friends and support were priceless. We thank all who gave him a wave, put a smile on his face, shook his hand, listened to his stories, set him up for his one liners over a cup of coffee.
“If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart, I’ll stay there forever”. Winnie the Pooh
That time has come, Dad. How lucky were we to know someone that makes saying good bye so hard?
We send you off with huge hugs from your girls…… and all your family…..
Leola, Currine, Connie & Carol………
Thank you to the staff at the Baldur Manor for taking care of Dad and for continuing to care for mom as she adjusts to life without her partner of 67 years.
Cremation has taken place. A Come & Go Celebration of Currie’s life will be held on Saturday December 8, 2018 in the Baldur Memorial Hall, commencing at 1:00 pm. Interment will take place at a later date in the Johnson Family Cemetery.
