OBITUARY
Claire Elizabeth Rahr
February 8, 1985 – December 3, 2018
Beth Rahr, born February 8th, 1985, precious daughter, sister, niece, friend, died peacefully in palliative care surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, December 3rd, 2018.
Survived by her parents, Maria Desjardins, Nicholas Rahr (Judy Robichaud); sisters Ali, Sarah and Maggie Rahr; brothers-in-law Andy Adams and Jack Julian; aunts Winifred Desjardins, Yolanta Desjardins and Estrella Rahr; cousin Natalie Rahr (Andrew Tait); and nephews Teddy and Rudy. Beth is predeceased by her beloved brother Thompson.
Beth called us to be better than we are: she taught us patience, tolerance and forgiveness. She never held a grudge, and her innate charm and innocence won hearts wherever she went. From a young age, family, friends and caregiver buddies were charmed by Beth’s curious mind and excellent sense of humour. They enjoyed making her favourite foods, spending the night with her when Mom was working away, or coaching her in Special Olympics. Beth’s angels also advocated for her, cared for her and fought for her when she needed it most. Luckily for Beth, there are too many to list, but you know who you are.
Many people knew the delight of a Beth greeting: her huge smile and sparkling blue eyes reached out with an elated ‘Hey, buddy!’ Creativity spilled out of her. Beth loved making bracelets, collages and paintings – and she was nothing less than a card artist. Generous by impulse and nature, Beth adored giving these works of art away – her beautiful contributions to her many friends and fans. A music aficionado who spontaneously jumped to her feet and danced, Beth was rarely seen without her headphones listening to her favourite tunes. A decorated Special Olympian, a born shopper with an innate sense of style and love of bling, a list maker extraordinaire, Beth had a capacity for joy that could make a trip for Powerade or new CD’s the highlight of anyone’s day.
From the day she was born, Beth was deeply loved, and she carried this knowledge with her throughout her life. She lived a life that was sometimes challenging and difficult for her to understand with enormous courage and grace. Even during Beth’s last days, her wide open heart still beat strongly as she told her family and friends alike, ‘I love you.’ We adored her. Her joyful spirit and welcoming heart will be with us always.
A wake will be held at Snow’s Funeral Home at 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax on Friday, December 7th from 2-4pm and 6:30 to 8:30pm. A celebration of Beth’s life will take place on Saturday, December 8th at the Atlantic School of Theology’s St. Columba Chapel, 660 Francklyn Street in Halifax.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Emerald Hall through the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.
