Cecil Benjamin ‘Ben’ Hendsbee
1952-2018
Hendsbee, Cecil Benjamin
-“Always Ben for Short” of Phillips Harbour, Guysborough Co.
With great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of
a dear husband, father and grampy on Wednesday, April 4, 2018. He had
just got home from Halifax where stints were put in his artery the day
before. It happened so suddenly, so fast he never got to remove his
jacket. Born on April 13, 1952 to the late Cecil and Eva (Bond)
Hendsbee. He was a fisherman for almost 50 years. Ben loved seeing the
ocean, sailing the grandkids around and talking fish
stories.
He married Greta (Creamer) at the age of sixteen and never
wished for another gal. He has three sons, Darrell, Joe, and Barry
(Rachel) plus three sweet grandkids, Rihanna, Ethan and Raylene who
were the apple of Grampys’ eye. They stayed over whenever
they wished and got lots of attention. Life will never be the same
without Ben and his big generous heart. We called him the Mayor of
Phillips Harbour, for a laugh and he could always laugh and joke. Ben
retired from fishing in June 2017 because of health reasons and sold
out to his son, Barry. He was planning to go back for a few days this
year to give Barry some pointers if health permitted. The Master had
other plans.
Leaving to mourn is his wife, Greta; his three sons, and
grandkids; brother, Allan (Michelle); sisters-in-law, Dessie and
hubby, Ding; Dellas (Nick); Doreen and Linda; brothers-in-law, Calvin,
Arnold, Morris and Jerry; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 6-9 p.m. Friday, April 6 in Canso
United Baptist Church and from where the funeral service will be held
2 p.m. Saturday, April 7 with Rev. David Wheeler officiating. Burial
in Union Cemetery, Queensport (close friends and family only
please).Donations in memory of Ben may be made Guysborough Memorial
Hospital, or Canso United Baptist Church.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of
