Catherine was blessed to have Special Nieces that she called her Daughters…and her Special Nieces were blessed and took pride in their “Other” Mom.
Catherine began her career with the City of Halifax, as an assistant to the Social Worker whose portfolio dealt with early childhood education. Once married her husband at the time served in the military and their home base in Halifax ended. She began to travel, through Europe and Canada accepting postings in Germany, Calgary, and Montreal. Through her travels she studied languages and cultures of each place she landed. This allowed her to speak and understand two other languages, German and French. This set her on a career path which she loved. After 35years of service she retired at home in Greenwood N.S. where she was the Administrative Assistant to the Captain on Base.
Catherine loved life. She was a ball at Family get togethers and social activities with her friends. She had a love for sports. In her early years she played tennis, enjoyed skating, which grew into curling, golf and bowling which continued into her senior years. Along with most of the members of her family they learned and competed at an early age to dance and sing (Acapello Trio, The Bruce Sisters)
She was a member of the New Horizon’s Baptist Church (Cornwallis St. Baptist Church). Where she also served as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Mayflower curling club, a member of the Golden Age bowling league, the Ladies Auxiliary at the Vimy Legion #137 and the Order of the Eastern Star.
The Family would like to thank the staff at Maplestone Ehanced Care (Evans Hall) for not only taking care of our Loved one but also for the care, support, education and kindness you gave to all of us through this difficult time.
Flowers are welcomed. Donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, Cancer Society’s or New Horizon’s Baptist Church.
