It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our precious wife and mother at Carpenter Hospice on Nov 15, 2018 in her 76th year. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Rod, and her devoted son, Michael. Predeceased by her parents Lloyd and Margaret Gapes, and her brother Bob.
Bev was a career nurse who began her profession with nursing training at St. Joe’s Hospital in Guelph, Ontario. She spent 25 years in the emergency department at Joseph Brant Hospital and enjoyed the diversity, problem-solving, decision making, and immediacy of care provided in that ward. Her career gave her the opportunity to develop many long-lasting friendships, proving that the best way to have friends is to be a friend. Family was of upper most importance to Bev: she was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great aunt, and friend. She truly did love everybody and followed The Golden Rule to a tee. Two quotes that she lived by were simply “Be Kind” and “There are always 360 degrees around every circle.”
Her life was fixated on travel and life-long learning. She craved adventure and new landscapes, wanting to always know about the history of every place she went. The process of researching destinations was equally as important and enjoyable as being there in person. Following her retirement, she was able to enjoy a wealth of new experiences traveling with family and friends. Bev relished the simple aspects of interacting with new people, varied cultures, and the natural beauty of the Earth. Travel brought new ideas, new perspectives, new relationships, and a deeper connection with our shared humanity.
Memorial Visitation is at Bay Garden Funeral Home, 1010 Botanical Drive BURLINGTON (905-527-0405) on Wednesday November 21, from 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. a Celebration of Life will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family would appreciate memorial donations made in celebration of Bev’s life to any or all of these worthy expressions of compassion: Doctors Without Borders/Medeciens Sans Frontiers, UNHCR, or The Carpenter Hospice.
