BERTILLE DEMERS
1928-2018
On December 14, Bertille Demers, 90,
of Villa de Repos, formerly of Dieppe, passed away peacefully at The
Moncton Hospital with her loving family by her side.
Born in St. Joseph, NB in
1928, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Leger and Zelma (Landry)
and attended Notre Dame du Sacré Coeur Convent for her
schooling. She retired after 25 years as Activity Director
at the Villa Providence and Manager of the Cite D’Age
D’Or apartment complex in Shediac. In 1987, she underwent a
successful liver transplant in London, Ontario, which led to her many
years of dedicated service as the President of the local chapter of
the Canadian Liver Foundation. Until her passing she was the oldest
and longest living liver transplant recipient in Canada. One of
Bertille’s proudest accomplishments was as Founder and
President of the Projet Mère–Léonie
raising funds for a monument in St. Joseph. Bertille was also the
Co-Founder of the Dieppe Gold Blades Figure Skating Club, past member
of the Beauséjour Curling Club, and Club D’Age
D’Or de Dieppe and for many cherished years, a member of the
“Golden Girls”. Two of her greatest
pleasures were photography and spending summers at her Parlee Beach
cottage.
Bertille was always devoted to her
family and will be deeply missed by her son, Marc Demers (Sylvia);
four daughters: Lise Demers, Michelle Demers (Ian Macpherson), Margot
Demers and Julie Thebeau (Roland); eight grandchildren; Mathieu,
Serge, Natalie, Maxime, Madeleine, Ben, Sidney and Weston; five
