January 20, 1952 – May 27, 2018
FRANCO, Antonio “Tony” January 20, 1952 – May 27, 2018 Tony was called by the Lord on May 27, 2018 at the age of 66, surrounded by his beloved family and in the arms of his brother, John Manuel. Predeceased by his parents Maria Antonieta (nee Oliveira) and Herminio Franco and his sister Herminia in infancy. Survived by his siblings Carlos (Cathy), John Manuel (Mary), Maria de Fatima Cacilhas (Gilbert), and Teresa Levey (Brad), as well as by his doting Goddaughter Christina Franco (Danielle) of Burlington and Catarina of the Azores. Also survived by many neices, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends both in Canada and abroad. Tony was a devout Roman Catholic who loved to celebrate Mass and participate in the Festas (feast) of the Portuguese community. He also enjoyed his McCafe and Timmies coffee clubs every afternoon. Tony was an inspiration to us all as he experienced colorectal cancer, never a complaint nor a whimper. A man of few words with a big, big heart and gentle soul that helped his whole family. Tony was an employee at the Hamilton Spectator as a mail room inserter for more than 36 years. He was affectionately known as the mayor of Fullerton Ave, and later the ever ready bunny due to his stamina and perseverance. Thank you to all who helped with his care at the Juravinski Cancer Centre from the volunteers to Dr. Meyers, Dr. Major, and Dr. Russell, as well as to the staff at CCAC especially Brenda Bowles for the excellent home care that they provided and in his final days the incredible care and compassion afforded by the Dr. Bob Kemp hospice, not only to Tony but also to our whole family. Visitation will be held at FRISCOLANTI FUNERAL CHAPEL, 43 Barton St. E. (near James) on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. with Vigil Prayers at 3:45 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King (714 King St. W.). Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tony’s honour made to any of the above organizations, especially the Dr. Bob Kemp hospice, or to St. Ann’s Church of Hamilton and Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King would be greatly appreciated by the family.
