Obituary for Andrew Robertson
ROBERTSON, Andrew
Peacefully, on November 24, holding the hands of his wife and surviving sister, Andy passed away. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland and was Scottish through and through. He immigrated to Canada in November 1951, and loved his adopted country. Andy had an entrepreneurial, artistic and giving spirit and found a career he loved as a real estate appraiser. Throughout his life Andy was dedicated to all things Scottish including the Tartan Club, the Tartan Games, and organizing raucous bus trips to American places of interest. Andy was a ballroom dancer and swimmer, and loved making stained glass windows and wooden carving boards. He was an avid fitba’ (soccer) fan, and could often be found among either the Rangers or the Celtic supporters. Andy leaves behind his wife, Alice, of 59 years, who was the love of his life, his children, Ian (Adrianne) and Heather Logan (Derek), as well as five grandchildren, Matthew, Rebekah, Miriam, Alyssa and Brandon, his surviving sister, Nan Whyte and many nieces and nephews both here and “over the pond.” Andy will also be fondly remembered by those who found themselves on the opposite side of his strongly held opinions. In lieu of Scottish Thistles (or ordinary Canadian flowers), donations to the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice or Cancer Assistance Program would be appreciated. The family thank the staff at the Juravinski Cancer Centre, his family physician Dr. Williams and his staff, the community palliative care team, and the Bob Kemp Hospice staff for helping to usher Andy through this journey pain-free, peacefully and with dignity. Please join us for Andy’s going-away party on December 8, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Polish Alliance Hall (where the Tartan Club dances are held) 1015 Barton St E, Hamilton.
